I have over 20 years of clinical experience, teaching and training in Psychology.
I taught at Macquarie University for over ten years in the Master of Social Health, Diploma in Applied Psychology and Master of Clinical Psychology. During this period, I trained hundreds of students in advanced counselling skills, such as bereavement counselling, group psychotherapy, and different models of psychotherapy, such as Narrative Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy.
I was Senior Education Officer at the Hunter Institute of Mental Health (now called Everymind) with the role of educating Australian media about suicide prevention and accurate reporting of mental illness. I was then promoted to Senior Education Officer for HIMH, where I was responsible for delivering training programs for allied health professionals across the country. These programs covered a wide range of psychotherapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Interpersonal Psychotherapy and Narrative Therapy.
My approach to supervision:
I take a Solution Focused approach to supervision, rather than a didactic model. I support clinicians to build on their strengths, address blind spots and gaps in learning, and become cognisant of process issues.
